ArcGIS 10.2 Released

Esri is pleased to announce the release of ArcGIS 10.2. It is now available for download on the Esri Customer Care Portal for all customers current on maintenance.

The ArcGIS 10.2 setup package is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of the same ArcGIS 10.1 product (including SP1). The settings for the installation location, license manager (for Concurrent Use), or authorization information (for Single Use or ArcGIS Server products) are retained in the upgrade. See the following installation guides and Knowledge Base article for more information on installation upgrades, new installations, or installations over versions previous to 10.1.

Note: If a previous version of ArcGIS VBA Compatibility is installed, it must be uninstalled prior to installing the version available at the 10.2 release.

It should be noted that the full iso download for 10.2 exceeds the maximum capacity for a standard, single-layer DVD.

It should also be noted that, in the case of concurrent use licensing, a 10.1 and a 10.2 License manager/server cannot be hosted from the same device. In your customer care portal, you will notice that at 10.2, the same license numbers are shared for 10.1 (which is different from 10.0), so there is no opportunity to transition at the license leverl. Furthermore, since concurrent use licenses are controlled at the ‘EFL’ level, you can only deauthorize an entire batch of concurrent use users.

Therefore, there are no means to upgrade in a stepwise fashion; the upgrade process is ‘all or nothing’.

If you need the Software in a DVD you can always request it from Esri Customer Service. You also have the flexibility of downloading the individual setup components which are much smaller.
There is no requirement of running 10.1 (or 10.0) and 10.2 License Manager on the same machine. You can authorize 9.X, 10.0, 10.1-10.2 Licenses on 10.2 License Manager. 9.X and 10.X clients can connect to 10.2 License Manager.

Just in regards to the 10.2 exceeding the capacity of a DVD disk, we found that downloading it and opening the iso with an archive program like 7-ZIP we were able to mange the install process without creating a DVD. Hope this helps….
