Showcase Your Work and Win a Trip to Washington, DC
Esri is getting the word out about an exciting opportunity to create dynamic data solutions for the Department of Education’s Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Data Challenge.
We are challenging people to unleash the power of data by way of their own geographic analyses, visualizations, predictive models and more – to tell a compelling story. We believe new ways of exploring and boosting the visibility and utilization of data on AAPIs – helping to make it more meaningful – will inspire better understanding, insight, and action.
The challenge was announced by the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI), and AAPIData.com, a research project sponsored by the University of California, Riverside. The initiative’s aim is to improve the quality of life for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the nation through increased access to, and participation in, federal programs.
Members of the Esri team will be on hand in Washington, DC to support the Elevate: AAPI Data Challenge on October 7, 2016 at the data convening. The event will showcase the winners and feature speakers and panels on policy analysis, education data analysis, and data visualization.
What: Elevate: AAPI Data Challenge
Who: Everyone – from high school students and data hobbyists to government, nonprofit and corporate analysts – is invited to participate.
How: Submissions may include infographics, web applications, data tables, blog posts, animations, videos, and other creative mediums.
When: Please submit your application to whitehouseaapi@ed.gov with subject line “Elevate: AAPI Data Challenge” by September 5, 2016.
Selected applicants will be invited to a convening in Washington, DC hosted by WHIAAPI and AAPIData.com on October 7, 2016, to discuss their work.
Why: The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI), which is housed within the Department of Education, and the University of California, Riverside (AAPIData.com) are sponsoring this challenge to hear from the public about novel approaches to analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data about AAPIs.
