We also found time to add a few minor enhancements you asked for:

  • Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition is now a supported IDE.
  • The gdbVersion on RelationshipParameter Class is now supported.
  • New DrawMode.ScreenAlignedRectangle enumeration type was added (Note: DrawMode.Rectangle is map-aligned).
  • Support for feature collection items by reference in WebMaps.
  • Exposed Symbol properties on Editor, TemplatePicker and EditorWidget.
  • Support for WMTS multidimensional services.

You can read the full list of enhancements, issues addressed and known limitations in the release notes.

Note that version 10.2.5 marks the last planned release of the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for WPF. Technical support will continue to be available through June of 2016. Moving forward, we recommend you explore WPF solutions based on the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET. For information on transitioning to the new ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET please read this blog post.

Operations Dashboard in a browser

In March we rolled out quite a few updates to Esri products and the Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS was no exception. A lot of exciting new features were added and you can find a full list of updates on our doc site or a preview of them from this blog article.

Perhaps the most sought after request that we added this release is to extend the reach of Dashboard beyond Windows Desktops and laptops and add support for tablets (iPads and Android tablets) so that more people within the organization can use it. With the 10.2.2 release, we have done just that by building Dashboard into the browser so it can run across platforms.

This blog article will describe how you can author operation views that target the browser and highlight capabilities within the browser app itself. Continue reading

Version 10.2 of the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for WPF is now available!

Version 10.2 of the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for WPF is now available for download on the ArcGIS Resource Center.   This is a significant release that includes pivotal fixes and updates, and provides easier access to the product download with more flexible licensing.

Here are a few highlights of what’s new with the WPF SDK:

  • Download the product and develop apps for free.  To get started, create an ArcGIS for Developers account to activate your ArcGIS subscription.   Login to the ArcGIS for Developers site, click on the Licensing menu, and follow the simple instructions.
  • Integration with Visual Studio 2013 and Blend for Visual Studio 2013.
  • Support for a new, simplified, task-based approach to asynchronous programming using async and await.
  • Set the rendering mode for graphics layers and feature layers.  Dynamic mode to retain a dynamic, interactive experience with graphics.  Static mode to improve drawing performance when displaying graphics.
  • Use symbol rotation parameters on renderers.
  • Define label properties for dynamic layers in ArcGIS map services.
  • Support for new ArcGIS Image Service features included with 10.2.
  • Create, update, and delete items on ArcGIS Online or on-premise ArcGIS Portals.
  • Use WebMapViewModel to integrate web maps into apps that employ MVVM design patterns.
  • Use IdentityManager with OAuth2 authentication workflows.

See the Release Notes for more details on what’s new and changed in version 10.2.

Source code for the Toolkit libraries is available on CodePlex and will be made available on GitHub soon.

Note, this release does not contain the new beta features included with other 10.2 ArcGIS Runtime SDKs, such as support for offline use of data for map display, sync-enabled editing, locators, and networks.   The new ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET, discussed in a blog post earlier this year, will support this new offline functionality.  The ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET will be available as 10.2.1 public beta in December 2013.

Enjoy!

The history and future of the ArcGIS SDKs for .NET

When Microsoft announced Silverlight at the MIX conference in 2008, we quickly started to look at what this amazing new technology could do to enable .NET developers to build great web applications for ArcGIS Server.   Since both Silverlight and WPF were based on .NET and XAML, we were able to quickly port our Silverlight implementation to the WPF platform.   The SDK grew popular very quickly – we even won several awards.  When the new Windows Phone platform was announced in 2010, we had a prototype running on a phone within the hour of launch.  The parity between the platforms was amazing such that nearly 99% of the source code was shared across the three APIs.   This provided a consistent experience for .NET developers building ArcGIS Server clients across all three platforms.
