Launch a Story Map Series at a specific entry

Story Map Series is a very useful story map template, ideal for presenting a series of maps and media sequentially using several different layout options: tabs, numbered bullets, or an expandable side accordion. Examples include Protecting Idaho’s Waters, Fast Food Nation, and many more found on the Story Map Series gallery.

About Map Series entries

By default a Map Series opens to the first bullet, tab, or accordion, and provides sequential access to a series of other entries. When using the bulleted or side accordion layout, the entry is numbered. When using the tabbed layout option the entry is not numbered, but is ordered from left to right starting at entry one. The examples shown below all have the third entry active:

Share a Map Series at a specific entry

To open a Map Series at a specific entry, add &entry=<num> to the end of the story map URL, where num is the entry number that you want the Map Series to open with.

For example, the following URL will open a Map Series using the bulleted layout at the beginning (entry 1):

To open the Map Series at the 5th entry, use the following URL (note the entry number appended):

The following opens a Map Series using the tabbed layout at the 5th entry (the Protecting People tab):

The following opens a Map Series using the side accordion layout at the 3rd entry:

I’ve got a Story Map (shortlist model):
And I want to open it at a specific tab like yours examples, I tried these URLs but it doesn’t work…

Can anybody have an idea to my problem?

    Thanks for your help.

Just to let you know the Operations Dashboard used in tab 4 of the Modern Airport Story Map is not working as it says that it cannot load the basemap:

The map 113e1e981be9484eaf47a8a2094b5a84 used by the Operation View could not be opened. The basemap cannot be accessed. Please contact the owner of the Operation View.

Thanks for the comment. I took another look, and everything seems to be working just fine. The Operation View is a bit slow to load, so it might be that via your connection that it might be timing out. In general I wouldn’t recommend adding a live operational view to a public story map, so I’ll trade that example out for something different.

Following up on Sylvain’s question/ Rupert’s reply, is there any update about whether will be added to the Shortlist to open the page to a particular entry via url?

Is it possible to be able to pass both the entry that you want the story map to open at and a x/y coordinate to zoom the map to? This is obviously based on an assumption that the entry you’ve chosen to link to is a map and not a image/video/app. If not is it a possible future enhancement to the Series template?
