For all existing ArcIMS customers out there, there has been a change to the ArcGIS 10/10.1 deprecation plan. Version 10.0 was the last release of ArcIMS and there are no plans for any future versions of ArcIMS.
Here is the updated text from the deprecation document:
“ArcGIS 10.0 was the last release of ArcIMS; we will no longer ship ArcIMS in releases after ArcGIS 10.0. With the adoption of ArcGIS Server and the move to 64-bit servers, ArcIMS is no longer the recommended product for producing web maps. While no longer shipped as part of ArcGIS, the current version of ArcIMS (version 10.0) will be continued to be supported as part of the ArcGIS 10.0 lifecycle.”

ArcGIS 10.1 will be out in less than 12 months. ESRI support have confirmed that ArcIMS 10.0 will not connect to ArcSDE 10.1. ESRI announced over a year ago that ArcIMS would be supported through the 10.1 release, and that continued to be the message through October of this year. Our organization invested heavily in ArcIMS. It is an effort of several years to convert to a new platform, and we have to convince our customers to spend their money and staff time on that conversion. The decision to cut a year off of ArcIMS support does not make our customers more confident in our or ESRI’s ability to deliver a replacement.
After further verification it’s important to note the following correction:
Esri will support ArcIMS 10.0sp2 connecting to SDE 10.1.
Hi Sandie – The information you recieved that ArcIMS 10 will not connect to ArcSDE 10.1 is not completely correct. While ArcIMS 10 will be the final release; ArcIMS 10 SP2 will be able to connect to ArcSDE 10.1 by updating the SDE libraries.
