Uploading Your Custom Data and Report Templates to Business Analyst Server

This entry talks about uploading the custom BDS file and report template, created in earlier posts in this series, to Business Analyst Server. If the data is not already created, you can download the custom report template and the custom BDS from the links provided. This entry is written to help Business Analyst Desktop users upload the data and report template. The information that a Business Analyst Server administrator needs, in order to configure the server to allow for uploading data, is provided in a couple of places. There is a white paper that provides a walk through of the process that will allow for uploading. This information is also a part of the Business Analyst Server Install Guide, Step 7: Required Additional Steps.

Blog Series – Importing and Using Your Own Data in Business Analyst – (2 of 6) Using Custom Data

In this entry I will focus on using the custom data created in the first blog within Business Analyst Desktop.

Now that my colleague Kyle created a BDS layer with the EPA data, I am going to illustrate how you can use this information in Business Analyst.  I started by adding the custom BDS layer to ArcMap using the Add Data button.  The Census Tract layer with the EPA cancer risk data and Esri demographic data is added to my map like any other ArcGIS layer. We want to analyze and understand cancer risk scenarios across the United States.  We’ll do so by combining publicly available nationwide EPA data with Esri Data variables to form a Custom BDS layer.  You’ll be able to download and replay this scenario – or apply the concepts to your own organization.  Continue reading
