What's New In Collector (December 2015)

On Thursday, December 7th, Collector for ArcGIS on the Windows 10 platform was released into Windows Store. One week later we are now updating Collector on the iOS and Android platforms as well.

The December update contains key new functionality that is driven from your feedback. Here are the highlights…

A new synchronization setting

The sync process within Collector is very similar to email synchronization. It will push updates from your device to the feature service and pull changes that others have made since last time you synchronized. This ensures that you are always up-to-date with the latest data in the feature service but has a significant cost as well.

So we added a new setting called “Push Only”. If you are simply a collector of new data and do not care about the changes others have made, turn this setting on. It will not download features or related data each time you sync.

Added ability to filter types and coded values

When choosing a feature type to collect or picking a value from a coded list of values, scrolling can be cumbersome if you have a lot of types or values to choose from. With this update you can filter the list by typing a letter or number and quickly reduce the list to find what you are looking for.

New attachment size setting for the iOS platform

Using Collector, you can capture photos and attach them to the features. With the 12-megapixel iSight Camera in an iPhone 6S or the 8-megapixel iSight Camera in an iPad Pro, photos can get quite large – often larger than you need them to be when creating an asset inventory. Now you have control over the size of the photo. Collector can continue to capture photos to their actual size or using the Preferred Attachment Size setting, you can choose between Small, Medium, Large or Extra Large. The following are the list of pre-defined sizes you can choose from.

With the Android platform, you can choose your own camera app and control the size of photos using its capabilities. Look for us to publish a blog article soon about how to do this.

These updates along with bug fixes are available within the Collector doc site.

As mentioned in a previous post, we are working on our next major update that will include high-accuracy GNSS support and we want you as a beta tester! If you are interested, please contact us at Collector4ArGIS@esri.com.
