2012 Esri User Conference impressions from the Flex development team

The Esri User Conference in San Diego, CA is always a great opportunity to learn about new Esri technology trends, reconnect with your colleagues, and meet some new folks in the community. This year was no different and we would like to summarize some of the Flex-technology related news and announcements from this year’s conference.

Open-sourcing of Flex SDK

Last November, Adobe announced the Flex SDK would become a community-driven open source project.  This summer the first open-source  Flex SDK version was released by the Apache Software Foundation project, and recently Adobe announced the beta release of the next Flash Builder.

Here is a summary of the most recent releases:

ArcGIS 10.1 for Server and the ArcGIS API/Viewer 3.0 for Flex are available now

You can leverage all of the new ArcGIS 10.1 for Server features such as: printing, dynamic rendering and labeling, editor tracking, advanced queries, all with the latest ArcGIS API and Viewer for Flex releases.  Both were designed to work with ArcGIS 10.1 functionality.

ArcGIS API for Flex mobile development

Many users have asked if it is possible to use the Flex API for mobile development?  The answer is, Yes!  In fact we already have some samples for you to explore and use.  Check out the mobile samples included in the ArcGIS API for Flex (BasicMap and WebMap).

Flex Dev Team resources from the UC

We presented several technical sessions related to both the API and Viewer. If you missed a session, you can access the content online.  Stay tuned for updated links to the UC proceedings.

We also held a Flex Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting which was well attended, and some of the SIG presentations are available online:

Upcoming Flex Holistic Testing Event

We are already busy working on the next ArcGIS API/Viewer for Flex release.  Give feedback and help shape the next release by participating in an Esri Holistic Testing event September 17-21 2012 in Redlands, CA. If you would like to participate in this holistic testing event for the next Esri software release, please email HolisticTesting@esri.com for details.

It was great seeing the familiar faces from the Flex community at the User Conference this year; and if you were unable to make it in 2012, hopefully we’ll see you next year.
