The Esri Thematic Atlas Sample App is a configurable web application that uses a collection of intelligent web maps with text, graphics, and images to talk about our world. The sample application allows the author to organize maps into groups with a specific sequence. The thematic grouping and order of the maps allows the users to move progressively through the map collection looking for patterns and exploring countries, provinces, counties, hometowns, and neighborhoods.
The Thematic Atlas allows web maps to be organized and displayed in a simple yet powerful way. The Thematic Atlas Sample App is built for GIS teams who needed to show their content to non-GIS audiences. Two examples of this are the Global Development Atlas, and the Atlas of Demographics and Statistics (shown at the 2012 Federal GIS Conference). These atlases had such positive feedback that we decided to make the application freely available, and customizable. You can find the Thematic Atlas Sample App at atlas.esri.com.
From the website, you can download the Thematic Atlas Sample App as well as reference guides, installation guides and color palettes. The website has a simple five-step walk-through (complete with videos) showing you how to design your own atlas. Finally, from this website, you can customize your own thematic atlas.
We look forward to seeing your thematic atlas, and would like to hear about your experience building it. Feel free to contact us at atlas_team@esri.com.
