If you’re heading to the 2012 Esri International User Conference in San Diego, here’s a map you just can’t do without. It’s an interactive guide to San Diego produced by Esri’s Lee Bock, in collaboration with Rupert Essinger (whose San Diego maps have been a User Conference tradition for years).
Choose a topic of interest from the tabs – Fun, Food, or Design – and thumbnails of the short list appear, with the map displaying their locations. Pan or zoom, and the list updates (cool!) to show what’s nearby based on the extent of your map. Or pick from a list of neighborhoods to zoom directly to their picks.
Try telling your own stories by choosing from a collection of templates, and check out more story maps at storymaps.esri.com.
You can also check under the hood and view the ArcGIS Online web map used in the short list story by viewing its details.
If you’re heading to the User Conference you can learn more about making story maps by attending the Telling Stories with Map Templates technical workshop. Note that it’s presented multiple times, so check the session details for alternate dates and times.
