Time to refresh your browser! ArcGIS Online is frequently updated, and a new update has just been published. This is a significant release with many new features and capabilities. These new features include the following:
ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS.com Map Viewer
Drag-and-Drop Files
Spreadsheets (CSV files), text files (.txt), and GPX files can be added to your map via drag-and-drop. The appearance of features drawn on the map created from these file types can be customized by choosing a display option such as unique values or size. Pop-ups can also be configured for features created from these sources. See adding features from a file for more information.
Support For OGC (WMS) Services
OGC Web Mapping Service (WMS) layers are now supported in the ArcGIS.com map viewer and as shared items in ArcGIS Online through My Content. When you add an OGC web service as an item in My Content, you have options to select and rename layers, so others can find and use a well-formatted layer in their map. See About OGC (WMS) for more information.
KML Support
Features from KML layers can be added via Web URLs. You can add features from placemarks, network links, ground overlays, and folders. You can also share your KML layers in ArcGIS Online through My Content which lets others find and use these layers in their map. See About KML for more information.

Enhanced Group Item Management
Group owners can now organize and include publicly shared content (that they do not own) into their groups. Group owners now also have the ability to remove items shared with the group by other group members. See Owning groups for more information.
Renaming Layers
You can now rename top-level layers in a map using layer properties.
Improved Feature Editing
Snapping to existing features in your map is now supported.
ArcGIS Mobile
When visiting ArcGIS Online’s website (http://www.arcgis.com/) it automatically detects if you are using a mobile device and will open in your iPhone, Android 2.2, and Blackberry Torch with a specifically tailored browser-based view of ArcGIS Online maps for your mobile device.
Drag-and-Drop CSVs and Shapefiles
You can import points from a comma separated (CSV) file using latitude and longitude or addresses. You can also import features from a shapefile by browsing for a .zip file containing the constituent files for your shapefile. The features are stored in your map as feature layers so you can configure their pop-ups and how they are displayed. You can also configure dashboard gadgets for them. Learn more about adding content.
Support for OGC (WMS) Services
You can now add WMS services shared using ArcGIS Online as layers to your map. You can turn sublayers on or off, and adjust the layer’s opacity.
Feature Display
The appearance of features in a feature layer can now be configured, allowing you to choose to draw features using a single symbol of your choice, or draw features based on attribute values using unique values or classes of numeric values. You can do this on any feature layer whether it references a feature service, features imported from a CSV or shapefile, or a map service sublayer that’s been added to the map as a feature layer. See Change how features are displayed.
Map Dashboard
You can configure a digital dashboard for your map by choosing from a variety of gadgets. The map dashboard allows you to provide information about the features in your map beyond the symbols used to draw them in an easy to read fashion along the right side of your map. When you open a map that has a configured dashboard, the Dashboard panel will be displayed automatically. See About the map dashboard.

Undo and Redo
You can now easily undo and redo changes that you make to your maps and presentations using the buttons at the top left of the screen.
Map Center As Home
The Map Center is now the home screen, and allows you to view and manage not only maps but also services in ArcGIS Online. You can search for services and add them to your map directly from the home screen.
Managing Layers and Features
The frequently used Layers and Add Features panels are now permanently available at the left of the map. The panels can be collapsed or expanded as required.
Legend
The Legend panel is automatically shown if legend information is available for the map and is displayed on the left side of the map along with the contents panel.
Queries
The Queries drop down has been replaced by the queries panel that is displayed on the left side of the map. To execute a query, double-click the query in the panel, or click the execute button next to the desired query. See About queries.
Multiple Selections
Multiple features can be selected at once by holding the SHIFT or CTRL key on your keyboard as you click features to add or remove them to/from the selection. You can also click the Select button on the toolbar to drag a box around the features you want to select.
Add Map Service Features As Feature Layers
You can add the features from a map service sublayer to your map as a feature layer. You can choose to include all the features, or specify a query to filter the features you want to include. Once added as a feature layer, you can adjust how the features are displayed and configure dashboard gadgets for them. See Add content to a map.
Filtering Features
You can specify a query to filter the features that are displayed for any feature layer that references a feature service or a map service sublayer. In the Layers panel go to the Layer Details view, under Filter click Add, then specify your query criteria. See Filter features.
Custom symbols
You can now use your own image as the symbol for point features. Select Custom from the symbol gallery drop down and specify the URL to the JPEG or PNG image you would like to use.
Sharing Presentations
When sharing maps with presentations you can specify that it will open in presentation mode automatically when opened. Additionally, it’s no longer necessary to open your map in the ArcGIS.com map viewer to embed it; you can now embed your map or presentation in a blog post or other web page directly from Explorer Online. See About sharing.
