Blogging with ArcGIS Online maps
Something that’s a popular notion is using ArcGIS Online maps in blogs, and we’ve gotten a few questions about this recently. Can you embed an ArcGIS Online map in a blog post? The answer is “yes,” but it also depends on your chosen blogging platform.
Here’s a sample ArcGIS Online map embedded in a blog post:
To embed an ArcGIS Online map in your blog post, open a publicly shared map (one of your own, or any other map) and click Share:
Then choose Embed in Personal Site:

This will display the HTML that you can copy and paste into your post. You can make some adjustments by choosing the width and height, or whether you want a scale bar or zoom control. And you can always edit the HTML in your blog post later.
Here’s the HTML in the body of our post as we’re editing it. Just copy and paste the HTML inline where you want the embedded map to go.

Something to keep in mind is that different blogging platforms offer different capabilities. For example, the free WordPress.com blogs do not support embedding ArcGIS Online maps, but if you roll your own WordPress blog then you can. The free blogger/blogspot does, and that’s the one we’ve used in this example.
The Sharing Maps help topic covers embedding, and other ways to share in more detail.
