The Metadata team just posted a patch that provides a new FGDC metadata style for ArcGIS Desktop. We recommend this patch to users who are required to maintain FGDC formatted metadata documents.
This patch addresses the lack of an FGDC metadata style in ArcGIS 10.0 Final.

What’s the difference between this and the FGDC metadata editor add-in?
There is a brief comparison between the two in a more recent post about the same patch: http://blogs.esri.com/Dev/blogs/arcgisdesktop/archive/2010/08/25/FGDC-Metadata-Style-Patch.aspx
The WebHelp system was updated with current information about the patch. You can read more about FGDC metadata support in the following topic under the heading “FGDC metadata”: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Metadata_standards_and_styles/003t00000008000000/
ArcGIS 9.3.1: ArcCatalog Metadata – is there a patch to update the metadata editor in ArcCatalog for FGDC-STD-012-2002, the remote sensing extension?
Can any one explane a real deferance between the other Metadata Styles? I can see no functional diference between Inspire Metadata Directive, ISO 19139 metadata Implimintation Specifications and North American Profile of ISO 19115 2003.
Is there an answer to the question of Oct 22, 2010 about updating the metadata editor to include the remote sensing extension? That would be very helpful.
