The release candidate for version 2.0 of the ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight/WPF is now available for download on the ArcGIS Resource Center.   This release is feature complete for version 2.0.  It is important to note that you can install the 2.0 release candidate side-by-side with 1.x versions of the ArcGIS API for Silverlight/WPF.   Keep in mind that to download the API setup, you will need to login to the ArcGIS Resource Center.

Here are a few highlights of what’s new:

  • Additional data sources are supported in a new library packaged with the ESRI Silverlight Toolkit.  Data sources include GeoRSS, OpenStreetMap, WMS, and client generated heat maps. Note, source code for the toolkit will be available when 2.0 final is released in early July 2010.
  • Enable client-side snapping while editing feature geometry.
  • Use a new AttachmentEditor control to manage files attached to features as part of a editing workflow with ArcGIS Server feature services.
  • New renderers to support simple and temporal (time-aware) rendering scenarios.
  • WPF support for .NET 4.0.

Since the release candidate for version 2.0 supports the final version of ArcGIS Server 10 REST services, 2.0 components may not work with services hosted by a prior release of ArcGIS Server 10 (e.g. pre-release).   For example, feature services in the final version of ArcGIS Server 10 keep drawing information (e.g. renderers, symbols) separate from types whereas previous versions maintained symbols in types.

While minor, you will also notice that color schemes in the interactive SDK and documentation have changed to match the new resource center theme due to be released later this week on resources.arcgis.com and help.arcgis.com.

Enjoy!
