Locators now available

3/16/09—Address locators for Europe and North America, and a world places locator are now available on the ArcGIS Online Task Server. These free tasks are available to use in your ArcGIS applications.

The geocoding and place finding capabilities are based on Tele Atlas 2008 reference data for North America and Tele Atlas 2007 reference data for Europe. The address locator services support single address, reverse, and batch geocoding of up to 1,000 batch geocodes in a year. For external commercial use of ArcGIS Online tasks, or if you want to perform more than 1,000 batch geocodes in a year, you must purchase a subscription.

For information on using the locators with the ArcGIS software of your choice, see Using free geocoding tools on the task server.

Couple of questions,  is there an ability to offset from the street centerline?  Also, how often will the data be refreshed?

The address locators have a pre-defined offset for address segment geocoding. The offset is now 10 feet for the North American locator and 30 feet for the European locator.

The locators will be updated on a semi-annual basis to incorporate available data updates. The locators may be updated more frequently as needed to adjust functionality or to support new software releases.

How often will the TeleAtlas data be updated for the North America locator? Is that update cycle the same for both the free and premium subscription?

The update cycle for the North America locator should be two times per year. Free and subscription will be updated at the same time.
