Kathleen Galau teaches middle school at Floyd Dryden MS in Juneau, Alaska. This month, she was honored as a Featured Teacher by WIRED Science Education for using GIS as part of her curriculum.

Recently, she took her students into the field to track a bear they had collared and tagged. Using GIS analysis, they were able to answer questions like, Was the bear habituated to people? Did the bear frequent garbage dumps? And, how often did the bear cross roads?
