The 10^th annual GIS Day celebration was observed Wednesday, November 19. This grassroots event recognizes the importance of GIS and geography in our everyday lives. ESRI Employees Celebrating GIS Day

Today is the 10th anniversary of GIS Day, an international grassroots event to raise awareness of the power of GIS and promote geographic literacy in schools, communities, and organizations. Events are being held in 74 countries and all 50 U.S. states.

Many ESRI employees are celebrating GIS Day with activities such as helping elementary school children explore geography and GIS, introducing 3D GIS to college students, and hosting an event at a local library to help residents learn about their community in new ways through maps and interactive demonstrations. Here at the Redlands campus, a special GIS Day display is set up in the Cafe and cake will be served throughout the day. Employees can also enter a raffle to win fun prizes.

ESRI and Goodwill Industries Partner for Electronics Recycling Day

For the second time this year, ESRI and Goodwill Industries partnered to offer a computer and electronics recycling day on campus for ESRI employees. More than 9,500 pounds of computers, monitors, televisions, scanners, and printers were collected, just under the 10,000 pounds collected during the first event earlier this year.

Income from the Goodwill Computer Recycling Program helps fund their job development programs and expands job opportunities for people with disabilities as they train to refurbish and disassemble electronic equipment.
