Does this new functionality work with ArcGIS 9.3 connections to ArcSDE 9.2 (and earlier) geodatabases, or must ArcSDE also be at version 9.3?

The tool at 9.3 should work with any type of geodatabase connection. The tool was enhanced, so it should work with any data sources it can read or write out to.

As a quick test, I stored all my data in a 9.2 SDE connection and performed the blog again with my 9.3 client - it worked fine.

I have ArcGis 9.3 but cannot find the clip tool in the data management toolbox?

You should be able to find the Clip Tool here:

ArcToolbox > Data Management > Raster Toolset > Raster Processing > Clip
