• ESRI Data & Maps 2009 Update is now available!

     by James Shimota

The ESRI Data & Maps 2009 Update is now available!  It has been a few months in the making and there are many new features you will really enjoy.

•In previous years, the Data & Maps Update included only those datasets that had been updated since the last ArcGIS software release, requiring you to have to overwrite the previous Data & Maps footprint with the new files.  To make things easier, the 2009 update DVD contains all the data present on the Data & Maps and StreetMap North America DVD (released as part of the ESRI Data & Maps 9.3.1 Media Kit) plus all the updated datasets and display files.

•Another major enhancement is that most of the new layers in the update are available for download through the ESRI Data & Maps Group on ArcGIS Online Sharing. Now, if you only need a couple of the data updates, you can just download those instead of having to request the entire DVD.

•In StreetMap, the streets network, geocoding files and locators have been updated to the 2005 Tele Atlas street base.  All other supporting datasets in the Data & Maps StreetMap have been updated to current 2009 Tele Atlas data.

•The new (and much anticipated by many users) 111th US Congressional Districts data is included in this update, along with the existing 110th Congressional District.  Displayed side by side provides interesting study.

•Both US and Europe demographic data has been updated for 2009. Tele Atlas US Census data for Block points through the State level are all new.  MBR Research provided the source for the European NUTS updated datasets, which are the European equivalent to the US Census data.

•For better graphical representation, many new .lyr’s and multi-scale grouped layers have been incorporated into the product.  The Europe Purchasing Power shown above is an example of a multi-scale grouped layer.  By zooming in, more detailed demographic data is displayed within four scale ranges.

You can request the DVD here or visit the ESRI Data & Maps Group on ArcGIS Online to download the specific layers you need. Enjoy!

  • ESRI StreetMap Premium with Tele Atlas is AVAILABLE !

     by Christophe Charpentier

Earlier this year we released ESRI StreetMap Premium for North America and Europe using NAVTEQ data, and until this week it has been the only version available from ESRI.

Well, as of this week, ESRI StreetMap Premium for North America is now also available from TeleAtlas!

Graphics of the Media Kit for North America - unfolded

    The same Media Kit folded

Like all other existing versions of ESMP, ESRI StreetMap Premium with Tele Atlas data can be licensed by function (map display, geocoding, routing, or any combination of these) and by geography (region, country, or state/province).

Once you receive your Media Kit, you will also receive an email from our customer service group with a data license attachment similar to this one:

Once you’ve copied ESMP on your machine, double click on this 15kb file…

    …and you're good to go.

Those of you anxiously awaiting the Tele Atlas versions of ESRI StreetMap Premium will be happy to know it was worth the wait! In response to feedback we received on the earlier releases, we’ve made some significant technical improvements (which will also be incorporated in the next NAVTEQ releases).

The 2 major improvements being :

    1.      A new locator style, that will provide you with much better geocoding performance (quality and speed).

    2.      A street carto layer, that allows 5 times faster display in ArcMap.

For a quick overview of all the cool features of ESRI StreetMap Premium check out this podcast.

Next up will be the release of the European version of ESRI StreetMap Premium with Tele Atlas data. It should be only a matter of days now, so stay tuned…
